Six Smartphones Apps That Will Save You Money!

Still clipping coupons? Stop....and start using these smartphone apps instead!

1. ZipList allows users to create a master checklist for things they buy frequently; the app also finds coupons and sorts participating stores by aisle. Works on: Android, Apple.

2. Weekly Ads & Sales gives users access to weekly circulars without having to deal with the paper clutter. An added feature is its ability to track sales for the largest grocers, such as Kroger and Safeway, plus specialty retailers including Best Buy and Old Navy. Works on: Apple.

3. Grocery iQ matches items on users' grocery lists with applicable coupons and works best for people who tend to stick to the same list week after week. Works on: Android, Apple.

4. SavingStar registers users' loyalty cards and allows them to browse a list of exclusive offers. The "One or Many" deals feature lets users buy items over multiple trips to hit the required quantities. The deals usually have a big payout, such as $5 off $30 spent on Charmin, Gillette, and Ivory products. Works on:Android, Apple.

5. Cellfire sends coupons directly to users' loyalty cards and features an optional store alert, reminding them about coupons when they walk into a store. Works on: Android, Apple, BlackBerry.

6. Ibotta pays users back, usually 25 to 50 cents, when they take a poll or watch a short video, then buy the item, take a picture of the receipt, scan the bar code and submit it. It might not seem worth the effort at first, but those quarters can add up – especially when bonuses start to kick in after frequent use. Works on: Android, Apple.

TV Characters That Men MOST Want To Marry

Vanity Fair Magazine did a poll of men, asking them which TV character they would MOST want to marry. Topping the list with a big 23% of the vote..........Penny from The Big Bang Theory.

In second place with 11% was Gloria from Modern Family ( I actually thought she'd be number 1).

Liz Lemon from 30 Rock and Alicia from The Good Wife tied with 8%.

Olivia from Scandal got 4% and Megan from Mad Men was at the bottom with just 3% of the vote.

BTW......21% of the guys said "I'd just remain a bachelor" and 23% had no idea who they would choose. Maybe they're too busy out enjoying actual dates with real women to watch much tv? Ha!

Strangers Donate Dream Wedding To Terminally Ill Woman

This story brought tears to my eyes.....and a smile to my face at the same time. 35 year old Jen Bulik was shopping for wedding rings with her boyfriend in December, when she developed a cough that wouldn't go away. It was stage 4 lung cancer. Last month, she was told she had 4 to 6 months to live.

Knowing that her time was short, Jen decided to move up her wedding date. A local wedding planner, Erica Ora, heard about Jen and even went on Jen's Pinterest page to get inspiration for Jen's wedding. Erica called in favors with everyone she knew and ended up getting Jen's $50,000 dream wedding.....completed donated! Such a beautiful thing to do for a total stranger. Watch their story below:

Guy Uses 42 Sheets To Propose

Awwwwww.....I love this story!

Clifton Smith, 25, of Clarksville, Tenn.wanted a proposal as big as his love for his girlfriend, Rachel Weekly, so he got her dad to cut a giant one acre heart in his field, so Clifton could create something memorable. Then Clifton went to every thrift shop he could find to get enough sheets for his plan. "I went around and collected 42 sheets and cut those into uniformed strips and built the letters from there, using staples and wood to piece them together", he says.

Rachel had no idea what was in store for her when he asked her to join him for a casual plane ride overlooking some land as part of his "graduate work." The pilot, a family friend, was totally on board to help with the proposal.

"I told her a story that it had to do with some of my graduate work," Smith said. "My roommate and I were supposed to go up, and he conveniently backed out a couple days before so she could go up. I told her we could fly over the farm before getting to the school stuff. She was really excited because we were getting close and she could see her neighbor's houses, and then we get right over her parent's house and she could see what it said."

Suddenly, Rachel  realized what was actually happening. "Once we saw the big heart in the field and the letters I turned around and looked at him and he had the box out and I said, 'Yes,' and started crying," Weakley said. "It was just awesome. It was unbelievable."

The happy couple  plans to wed next March.

Are Long Distance Relationships Happier ?

A new study published in the Journal of Communication on July 18 showed that people in long-distance relationships have stronger bonds and more substantial communication than couples who live near each other.
The researchers asked 63 heterosexual couples -- about half of whom lived together, and half of whom were in long-distance relationships -- to record their communications each day. The couples were an average age of 21, and those who were geographically apart had been together for an average of about 17 months. They were asked to write down how the communication took place (e.g. face-to-face, phone calls, video chat, texting, instant messenger and email), in addition to how much they shared about themselves, how intimate they felt, and the extent to which they thought their partner did the same.

Surprisingly, the long-distance couples reported feeling more intimate with each other. They were shown to tell more about themselves to each other and had better opinions of how much their partner was sharing and reciprocating, especially in their text-based, non-simultaneous and mobile media communications.

Crystal Jiang, assistant professor at the City University of Hong Kong, said in a press release. "The long-distance couples try harder than geographically close couples in communicating affection and intimacy, and their efforts do pay back."

Exercise In A Pill?

Could old-fashioned gym workouts soon be a thing of the past?

According to the New York Times, scientists are developing a pill that would give your body all the benefits of exercise, WITHOUT any extra effort on your part.
Their work is based on a study published in Nature Medicine. Researchers injected a compound into obese mice that increased production of the muscle protein REV-ERB,
The animals injected with the compound lost weight and improved their cholesterol levels – even when on a high-fat diet. The injected mice also used more oxygen during the day and expended 5 percent more energy compared to mice in the control group – even though they were not exercising more. Here a link to more info on that study.

We're still years away from this pill being available for humans. If it were available today, would you try it?

Sharknado!

Everybody's talking about the Sy Fy Channel's "Sharknado" movie last night! For a disaster movie, it sure was unintentionally hilarious....maybe one of the cheesiest movies you will see all year. Still, a lot of people are wondering........Could a Sharknado actually happen? Experts say NO....here's why:

From Mother Jones Magazine -

"There are records of small fish being picked up by waterspouts, but sharks are pretty big and that makes it a lot harder" Harold Brooks, a senior scientist at NOAA's National Severe Storms Laboratory, insists. "And how are they gonna survive outside of the water? My guess is if [the tornado] gets some baby sharks, they might get thrown. But they wouldn't do a whole lot of damage—assuming they live." Brooks went on to say that if a twister were strong enough to scoop up a bunch of large sharks, the debris present in tornadoes—wood, metal—would essentially filet the animals. "The sharks would not be in very good shape," he says.

Chris Vaccaro, a spokesman for the National Weather Service, responded similarly: "Sharknadoseems to fulfill Syfy's description as 'a media destination for imagination-based entertainment,'" Vaccaro writes in a statement sent to Mother Jones. Even so, he humored me with his advice for sharknado readiness. "As with any waterspout or tornado, the best advice is to be in an interior part of the lowest floor of a sturdy building—and not outside, whether sharks are raining down or not."

Feel better? Good. Laugh away at the Sharnado replays with no guilt or worry!

Here's How Much Water You Actually Need To Drink For Weight Loss

Everyone's heard that water can help you lose weight, right?
Have you ever wondered if it's true or just an old wives' tale? Some researchers from Nutrition Sciences at the Berlin School of Public Health, Charite University Hospital decided to find out! They took a closer look at 11 different studies and not only discovered a link.....they found out exactly how much water you need to drink for it to work.

One study found that people who drank two cups of water before eating a meal lost more weight than people who didn't (on average, 4 pounds more!).

Another study showed that people who drank at least one liter per day--a little less than the recommended eight glasses--lost more weight than those who didn't.

None of the studies explained WHY it works, but one theory is that water helps keep hunger pains to a minimum by keeping your stomach full, but there could also be another possibility: Water-induced thermogenesis, a process where drinking water makes you more energetic and, therefore, burn more calories overall.
