We had a GREAT time in the 105.1 The Buzz A-List Lounge yesterday with Hot Chelle Rae. The guys sounded great!!! They took a few minutes to update me on what's going on in their world. LOVE them and can't wait for the new album in November!!!
LA Reid called in to talk about tomorrow night's premiere of "X Factor" on Fox and we ended up talking about all sorts of stuff, including: How he discovered Rihanna and KNEW she had "it".....an Outkast reunion and new album next year....being "meaner than Simon"....and the biggest artist he let get away.....
Can't wait to see these guys tomorrow night at the Crystal Ballroom!
If you like "Tonight Tonight" by HCR, check out the two songs they did for us in our Buzz studios....."Bleed" and "The Distance"
They also talked about: Wierd fans, fave karaoke songs, a creepy story that was written about them.....plus, they show off a talent for turning ANYTHING into a cover song. Enjoy!!!
You've been hearing The Band Perry's hit, "If I Die Young" on The Buzz, but did you know......they love Lady Gaga....their hit isn't really about dying.....and Neal does an AWESOME Gollum impression? That's just a little bit of what I learned about them when they invited me to hang out with them on their tour bus when they were recently here in Portland. Check out the interview and tell me what you think!
Duran Duran is on VH1 tonight, part of the Pepsi Superbowl Fan Jam and John Taylor took a few minutes to talk about that, Portland, the new Duran Duran album, and what he's doing for Valentine's Day. I wish we'd had more time to chat! Maybe when they come to the NW on their tour.
Everyone is yawning today (or skipping work entirely to sleep).....could it have anything to do with all those midnight showings of "Eclipse"? Duh! ;-)
Last week, I had a quick chat with actor Billy Burke, who plays Charlie (Bella's Dad). We were supposed to talk about his music, but I HAD to ask a few Twilight-related questions, right? He talked about: his fave scene in "Eclipse", what Robert Pattinson is really like, the plans for shooting "Breaking Dawn", Charlie's glorious 80's 'stache.....and more! I hope you enjoy it!
p.s. interview with Cameron Bright (Alec of the Volturi) coming soon!
I just got back from NYC, where I was lucky enough to spend St. Patrick's Day with The Script! The video is a bit raw, but I had to use one of those little flip-cams that are much more easily smuggled into shows. ;-) I was even able to ask Danny a couple of questions in the Meet & Greet. Enjoy!
The Script doing "Breakeven" live!
...and the first song from The Script that we played on The Buzz, "The Man Who Can't Be Moved"
Danny talks about recording their new CD and coming to Portland!
Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a band that you met when they were just starting out....achieve BIG success. I could not be happier for The Script, who stopped by our studios just one year ago, before they did a free show for us at Kell's. They were quite charming and funny as you'll hear in the clips below as they not only shared their fave songs, but also busted a few myths about the Irish.
After chatting for 10 minutes this afternoon with Michael Buble, I can honestly say I can't wait to see him when he comes to Portland. I love that you can ask him anything and he will be completely honest. We talked about how he met his fiance (and how she was convinced he was gay).....his advice for Greg Oden (after dealing with the whole nude pics on the net thing himself a couple of years back).....why he LOVES coming to Portland....and more! I'll be posting more clips later today....but enjoy my faves below!
I first heard about author Joe Hill via Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance. He was reading "Heart Shaped Box" and said it was really creepy (in a good way!). As soon as he said the words "It's about a rock star who buys a ghost off the internet", I was on the Powell's website, buying my copy. It was definitely creepy, yet full of dark humor and lots of rock-n-roll references. I loved it! So, you can imagine how excited I was to get Joe's new book, "Horns", about a guy who falls asleep after a drunken night....only to wake up sportin' a new set of horns...yes, on his head! Then people start confessing their deepest, ugliest secrets to him and he decides to use this new power to find a murderer.
Joe Hill is coming to Portland this Wednesday (March 3) for a reading/book signing at Powell's City of Books on Burnside at 7:30pm. I had the chance to talk to Joe about his new book.....rock-n-roll....which of his dad's (Stephen King) books made the best movies....etc! Hope you enjoy the chat below and I hope you can make to Powell's Wednesday night!
Joe Hill talks about "Horns"....his KISS obsession....his dad, Stephen King...and more! Joe Hill edit
If you think Dashboard Confessional's music is just for angsty teens....or when you've just gone through a horrible breakup and you need a soundtrack for drowning your sorrows in ice cream....think again! Chris Carraba writes some of the most beautiful, mature love songs (like "Stolen" *sigh*) that you will ever hear. The band can also rock with the best of them....something you might not know unless you look past the stereotypes and actuall go to one of their shows. Lucky for you (all of us, really), Dashboard Confessional is in Portland tomorrow night and there's still a handful of tickets available for their show at the Wonder Ballroom. Grab them and go! You won't regret it.
The guys stopped by last fall, right before their new CD "Alter The Ending" came out and we had a GREAT chat. Chris is actually a VERY funny guy.....he even pokes a little fun at his sensitive, emo-guy image in the interview below. I hope
Dashboard Confessional talks about their Jake's cheescake scam.....the most random place Chris has ever written a song....which of his songs get the most reaction from people...."Stolen"...."Hands Down"....and their fave new music discoveries!
Dashboard Confessional talks about the most ridiculous songs he has ever written....a Canadian guy in a thong who inspired a song.....Chris' ex-girlfriend's dad, who tried to run over him....the women who propose marriage all the time....and more!
Josh Duhamel called in to talk about "When In Rome", which opens today! I was warned to NOT ask anything about his personal life.....but, he was so cool, we ended up talking (a lot) about Fergie. *Warning* He kind of spoils the movie's ending in the first clip below....BUT...if you didn't figure out that in a movie like this, Josh Duhamel WILL get the girl....you probably don't go out to very many movies. ;-)
Hopefully, we can get him in portland and in our studio one of these days. I definitely got the vibe that with more time (and perhaps an adult beverage or two), Josh would really do some talking.
You can see Josh on Ellen today....on The Grammy Awards Sunday....and in theaters in "When In rome"....he's everywhere.
Have you seen this A&E reality show, "The Jackson's: A Family Dynasty". The season finale is Sunday and I have to say thsi show is nothing like I imagined it would be. They are so......normal. In fact, if you have brothers, you may even recognize your family at times in this show.
Cameras followed Michael Jackson's brothers as they prepared for a Jackson 5 reunion....and then, Michael Jackson died, which changed the whole direction of the show. Jermaine & Marlon called in to talk about the show & their memories of their brother, Michael. They also updated us on how Michael's kids are doing.....and confirmed that there is a LOT of unreleased Michael Jackson music, music we may be able to hear someday.
Check out the clips below:
Jermaine & Marlon talk about how Michael's kids are doing
Adam Lambert sat down with Fuse Tv for an interview that airs Monday night. In this clip, he talks about the famous Burning Man festival in the desert....where he first realized he was put on this planet "for our entertainment" ;-) Ha! Couldn't resist the cheesy pun there. Check out the clip below!
Pat, Scott, & Jimmy from Train stopped by last week for a chat before they did a mini-concert for Buzz winners (You can see video in the Buzz-A-Vision section). We had fun talking about...."Hey Soul Sister" and how it was inspired by Burning Man, a naked-dancing-in-the-desert extravaganza that Pat has yet to visit.....Pat's bratty Christmas tantrum when he was a kid.....what the guys find most beautiful about women....Pat's big tv debut on CSI:NY (and what it was like to work with Kim Mardashian......and more! It was a fun chat. I hope you like it!
Haha....Just kidding. Mat did say that he had no idea who Kris was when he called him up to ask Mat to write songs with him for his debut CD. The two got together in Nashville and ended up having a good time writing was Mat says is a pretty cool song. Listen to Mat talk about the experience below:
Michelle Branch stopped by recently to talk about all sorts of stuff....why she went country a few years back & why her country group, The Wreckers broke up.....Keith Urban & Nicole Kidman.....her BRAND NEW Cd (coming out in November) and her BRAND NEW song, "Sooner Or Later"....her prized Hanson Pillowcase....her fave Halloween costume....her love of UFC fighting.....and oh yeah, she played her big hit, "Everywhere" live in the studio for us (LOVE that song!)
Fun chatting with Michelle....hope you enjoy it! Click below to listen:
Michelle talks about why she "went country" a few years back.
Soooo... I have this friend in South Carolina and he is in TROUBLE with Twilight fans. His name is Matt and he has a band called Eleventyseven. He is not a Twilight fan (but really, how many guys are?) I was talking to him earlier today and we were talking about Halloween and he told me about this song they just did about a geek who crashes a Halloween party dressed as Edward Cullen. It's good cheesetacular fun (kinda like the Twilight movie). Check it out and let me know what you think.
Click the "MP3" below to hear Matt & I talk about the Twilight movie and the song that has earned Matt's band so much hate mail, "Flashlight"
American Idol winner, Kris Allen is working hard to finish his debut cd (due out Nov. 17). He just got back from London and took a few minutes to call in and talk about: writing with Chris Daughtry & Mat Kearney....the funniest thing that happened on the American Idols Live tour....a really nice British guy who helped him make his geeky Beatles fan dream come true....and more.
Michael Franti was in town last week and he stopped by for a visit.
Check out the story of how he met Woody Harrelson and how "Say Hey (I Love You)" was written in Woody's bathroom! Michael also performed it live for us!
If you know me at all, you know that when I get one of those rare "I have the house & tv all to myself" days, one of the first things I do is watch a Tyler Perry movie. Yes, I know I am probably not his target audience, but I love the family & friend drama that this man puts on the screen. His movies always make me cry....and then feel good at the end. I can't explain it, but it's great stress relief for me.
Sooo....when I got the opportunity to talk to Tyler Perry this morning, you'd better believe I got my butt out of bed at 5:30 to take his call. His new movie, "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" opens today, so we talked about that, of course. He also talked about....what performing in drag as Madea taught him about how tough it is to be a woman....what it was like to be working with Janet Jackson on the day she learned her brother died.....and why he gave 65 preschool kids from Philly an all expenses paid trip to Disneyworld.
David Cook was back in Oregon this last weekend to rock the Oregon State Fair. Before we sat down to chat, he sent a band mate on an elephant ear run (after all, a man's gotta have priorities)
I hoped to stretch things out long enough to share in the deep fried dough goodness, but I think the guy got lost.....probably ended up at a salsa-making demonstration or free hand massage booth....anyway.....here's the convo! We talked about....how he feels about being "cougar bait"....his ideal first date....how his brother's passing has changed how he approaches life.....what he considers to be the best invention ever....and more!
....her experience being a judge on American Idol (and what kind of freaks showed up!)......why her friends take her phone away when they are out having a good time....and that one time she showed up at a friend's party...NAKED (it was a bad idea)....
I had a GREAT time chatting with her backstage @ the Oregon State Fair...enjoy!
Ladies, here's a question for you. Can too much information ruin a rockstar crush for you? Honestly, I could have gone the rest of my life without knowing that Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day still wets the bed from time to time (ick!)....but the rest of this article in Maxim magazine is pretty interesting! He sounds like a really good dad (which does help balance out that bedwetting thing) and bonus points for manscaping! Thanks for sharing, Billie Joe, and since you threw your hat in the ring, I will definitely vote for you as the new King Of Pop.....why not?
Read part below or click here for the full article.
*NOTE* I had the article posted here, but had to take it down because of profanity. If you want to read it and "naughty words" don't bother you, click the link above.
Brendon Urie from Panic! At The Disco was at Pete Wentz' (Fall Out Boy) club in NYC Monday night and covered my fave Journey song. Now, you know I love me some Panic! ....but....I'm thinking it was a mistake to tackle those Steve Perry high notes. :-(
*in Paula Abdul voice* "...but you LOOK adorable, Brendon. Don't stop believin' in your dreams" ;-)
I'm surprised they had time to call me, since they've been all over tv (Today Show....E!.....Chelsea Lately) this week. Of course I had to ask about Kourtney's big news (baby coming near Christmas!)....and a few other things I've been wondering about while watching them on tv (cheesiest pickup lines guys have used on them....why America is so interested in what their family does)
I liked them! I especially liked their stories of the freak shows they encountered while living in Miami....and how they turned the tables on creepy guys....Enjoy!
P.s. Their new show "Kourtney & Khloe take Miami" premieres on E! at 10pm this Sunday!
Shinedown stopped by yesterday and we had a great time chatting about all sorts of things.....including YOUR random questions about their celebrity crushes, the most annoying thing about the opposite sex, cougars, what makes them cry, biggest compliment they have ever received, etc....we even found out one of them has a not-so-secret admirer, Taylor Swift!
It was a long conversation, so I will post the interview in pieces. Keep checking back!
They also did an amazing live version of "Second Chance". Enjoy!
Shinedown talks about their tour, their music, and the ONE girl brave enough to tour with them
I'll just say it, with no shame, I love this song....and I probably haven't said that about a Train song since "Drops Of Jupiter" was new. Seriously. This is catchy, upbeat, and I can't stop humming it. what do you think? Post a comment. I will pull a random comment (doesn't matter if it's good or bad, so be honest) and give that person a pair of passes to our Buzz Happy Hour Lounge with Uncle Kracker and Howie Day @ aLoft Hotel next Tuesday, August 19. Good luck!
Right before "G Force" opened, I got a call from Zach Galifianakis, who is pretty much the highlight of "The Hangover" as well. In fact, you might remember Rob Thomas saying Zach stole that movie (Rob's also a huge Zach Galifianakis fan). Needless to say, I was excited to get a chance to talk to him. He called from his cell in L.A. and we talked "G-Force"...."The Hangover" (and how he tried to pay the director to leave certain scenes out).....the video he made for Kanye West...and JUST when the conversation turned to music....HE GOT PULLED OVER for talking on a cell while driving. I still feel horrible!
Listen to the interview below.....and if you can think of a way to make it up to Zach, post it in the comments. In fact, post any comment you like and I'll choose one to win a pair of passes to see "G-Force"
I always love talking to Chris Daughtry. In a way, he kind of reminds me of Rob Thomas in that even after all of the success and attention, he's still refreshingly down to earth and honest. You get the sense that you could sit down with this guy and shoot the breeze about anything and everything. He's also got a great sense of humor....especially about himself. We had a few minutes to chat yesterday about the new CD.....his Pokerface cover (and unashamed love of pop music).....his comic book nerd side....and what superpowers he has fantasized about having. Time ran out entirely too quickly, but hopefully we'll get another chance to chat soon. I hope you enjoy it!
p.s. very soon I will also be posting a longer conversation with Chris that I had last fall. Keep watching my blog for that!
Blue October is coming back to Portland July 31, playing their fave venue in town, The Crystal Ballroom. Last time they were here, in March, they came into the studio and we talked about all sorts of stuff....like....how much they have changed since becoming first time dads....Justin's tour and friendship with Twilight author, Stephenie Meier.....their new CD....and how Justin isn't nearly as dark as people think he is. Enjoy the interview below and leave a comment! I'll choose a random comment and give them a pair of tickets to see Blue October next Friday, July 31!
Peopla always ask me what celeb I've most enjoyed meeting and I always say Rob Thomas (!!!) He loves to talk and he will talk about anything at all....no boundaries....I love that! He admits he is opinionated and it's gets him in trouble with Marisol. He's also quite the smartaleck, often with hilarious results, as evidenced by his new web series "Ask Me Anything with Rob Thomas". Check it out and see if you don't laugh out loud at least a couple of times!
Whew! "Press Hour" with the American Idols is over and it was wild. Several TV crews were there, as well as national publications like The L.A. Times and USA Today. I thought we would talk to three of the stars (had NO idea which three)....ended up talking to all 10! Normally, I like to get a bit more in depth with interviews, but we just didn't have the luxury of time. In fact, a couple of people I didn't get much of anything from because the "wrap it up" sign came a lot quicker than I thought it would (SORRY Lil Rounds and Michael )
I have to hurry and get to the Rose Garden for the show....will blog more later....and will be facebooking during the show....enjoy the interviews below!
P.S. I was facebooking updates during the show. If you'd like to read those posts, friend me! www.facebook.com/djsherylÂ

Whew....what a busy weekend! There is something about the sunshine that makes me try to fit about a week's worth of activities into the weekend!
Friday night....we took advantage of the sunshine and went for a long bike ride! My quads are still feeling it, but it was totally worth it! Afterwards, we relaxed and I read some more of "Shanghai Girls" by Lisa See. It was really hard to put this one down and I can't wait to finish it! This book is set in Shanghai, where these two sisters lead a very priviledged life, until their dad (who has a gambling addiction), sells them as brides....on top of that, the Japanese invade. They barely escape Shanghai with their lives and begin a new live in Los Angeles with their arranged marriage husbands. Live in L.A. kind of sucks for them, as their father-in-law treats them like slaves and second class citizens....but they have each other....and a plan....Love this book!
Saturday- Got up to pull weeds in the garden....once again, my quads are not loving that action, but the garden looks lice and I think we are going to have tomatoes very soon! Yay! After we got cleaned up, we went to the Best Of Oregon Food & Wine Festival....Great food and wine! Plus, we enjoyed a nice, long chat with Rich, the winemaker at Viento. Rich has us convinced that we need to visit Hood River soon. We followed that up with dinner (and crazy old Mexican sci fi movies) @ Trebol. Yummy! I recommend the halibut w/ plantains!
Sunday - I have been wanting to see "Confessions Of A Shopaholic" for a while and it's finally out on DVD, so I popped that in and we all watched while enjoying some low fat ice cream sandwiches. The movie is really cute and the soundtrack is great. Isla Fischer plays Rebecca Bloomwood, who grows up with frugal parents and thinks that she can shop her way into the cool kids crowd. She ends up with 12 credit cards and a nasty shopping addiction. When she gets laid off from her gardening magazine job, she is willing to take whatever job she can get...which happens to be for a money magazine, where she gives money management advice, depsite the mess her finances are in. She spends a lot of the movie ducking debt collectors and responsibility before a crisis she can't avoid (and a very public humiliation) force her to realize that money cannot buy happiness and the best investment a person can make is in relationships with people we care about. It won't win any Oscars, but it is a cute movie with great clothes and an even better message! I had a chance a while ago to interview Joan Cusack (who plays Rebecca Bloomwood's mom) about the movie. You can check that out below!
