Crazy News Quiz for Friday, Sept 25

Q- Many parents do this, but they might want to stop, as researchers say it makes your kids less intelligent. What is it?

A- Spanking.

Oh how I wish this study had come out when I was a kid. In fact, I just may send a copy to mom & dad today with a note that says "thanks a lot!" haha! This is already somewhat controversial, but the researchers bring up some interesting evidence for trauma having an adverse effect on the brain. Check out a story on the study, as well as a discussion on the Today show here.

Ok, I get the whole spanking is bad thing... but I SERIOUSLY disagree. When my generation was growing up we had respect for adults, we didnt have shootings in school... gangs, etc. I'm not saying that people should beat their kids, but whats wrong with a spanking when the kids get seriously out of line??? I'm not "stupid" or "mentally challenged", and I'm certainly not "traumatized". What I am is respectful, polite and courteous. I am considerate of other people and their needs, feelings, etc. I think that society has become far to complacent and everyone is looking for some excuse for their bad behavior. I do not understand why people dont see this. Kids need to know where the boundaries are, and they need to have some fear of "corporal punishment" for no other reason than maybe they will think twice before they do something really stupid.
